After studying architecture in paris, marc deloche chose to devote himself to his passion just 20 years ago by creating a jewellery label and setting up his own design atelier in toulouse where he is from. refined collections with curves and graphic, modern and unisex shapes... a meeting with this architect-jeweller.interview with marc deloche:it’s true that i studied architecture but during architecture we study lots of things such as colour, volumes, geometry and all that is still very related to drawing, so why not adapt it to jewellery, that was my choice. i decided to be an architect and i still practice my profession, however it’s true that it’s also fun to be able to practice drawing smaller objects such as the jewels, but in fact i believe the work for me is almost the same, it’s just the scale ratio that’s different. to start i need to have an idea and then i do a little sketch, sometimes i can make small paper models and the great luck first of all is having this workshop that also serves as a little laboratory for me. that’s to say as soon as i have done a paper template or something, it allows me to quickly put it in volume, in metal, to see what the constraints are, see if it works, if it’s comfortable, it it’s not too heavy, so it’s true that it’s a very big opportunity for me to have this atelier so i can do that. a lot of work is done on the cut metal which is then shaped and welded, after which there is all this finishing work that takes a while. silver metal is a rather temperamental metal so there’s a lot of catch-up work to get the polished perfect finish. we find a few architectural traits, i actually think that the way to draw more geometric shapes and simpler volumes is maybe also derived from architecture. i also like mobile and articulated jewellery, i like the rather large volumes in fact. i find that when you decide to put on a piece of jewellery, as much as you see it, it becomes an ornament, more than an accessory, a real decoration and perhaps a bit like armour too.
